Feeling rather worse for wear, I napped pretty much all the way to Milan. This meant that I missed Alex receiving an e-mail from our hostel saying that her and Charlie couldn't stay without any ID or a statement of loss from the police. Since they'd never had any hope of getting their purses back, the girls hadn't reported the incident in Rome.
Unfortunately for me, this meant a lovely 2 hour meeting with the police in Milan.
We had to go straight to the police station from the train to in order to get the girls a statement of loss each (which Alex ironically ended up losing, but that is another story).
The policeman couldn't speak English and the girls can't speak Italian, so it all took far longer than it needed to.
All was made well again though, and we dropped our bags off and went for dinner with some Erasmus students from UCL studying in Milan.
After too many 'write-off' days, the next day we were determined to get stuff done.
We got up early and walked to the Duomo di Milano.
It's a gorgeous sort of hybrid gothic weird and wonderful building...
... but the stone was kind of blinding in the sunshine (not that you can tell from the picture) so we couldn't look at it for too long!
Shielding our eyes, we hurried inside to take a look around.
Unfortunately, you have to pay a fee to take photographs. Being a poor student, I chose not to pay, but I did sneak one snap of some stained glass.
After hanging around the Duomo for a while, we headed to the Sforza Castle.
It is absolutely MASSIVE and looks a bit like a posh prison...
Want to know the best thing about this place?
It has a tonne of museums and you get access to all of them for the measly fee of 1 euro 50.
Yep, 1 euro 50.
If this thing was in Venice, visiting would probably force you to declare bankruptcy.
We spent the rest of the day wandering around the museums, making up for all the culture we'd missed out on in Rome.
Our travel week ended with SUSHI (yes, we finally found sushi in Italy) and drinks in one of the squares.
Milan, you were wonderful, keep up the good work!
