Il Campanile di San Marco

Following our visit to St. Mark's, Charlie and I headed onto the piazza to find our friends. They were still in their seminar, however, so we figured we'd put our time to good use and head up the bell tower in St. Mark's Square.
We were super lucky because there was no queue at all, but I think it must've been a one off because when I went back for my seminar today, the queue stretched basically to the Doge's Palace.
It's only 8 euros for entry - in comparison to some of the other extortionate entry fees we've been paying, 8 euros is pretty good.
You buy your ticket and head straight into the lift which takes you up to the top of the tower.
When the doors of the lift open, you are greeted by the most fantastic view of the city. On a clear day, you can even see as far as the Dolomites.
Unfortunately for us, it was very overcast, windy, cold and generally pretty miserable, but it didn't detract from the view too much, as you can see!

It was virtually impossible to get a decent picture of me up there because the wind was insane, so this is about as good as it gets...

Definitely worth a visit if you're ever in Venice. It made me really appreciate just how beautiful the city is. I worry that I may become desensitised to the unique beauty of the city, but now I know that I can always pop up the bell tower to realise its beauty all over again!
