Waddesdon Manor

I've been neglecting you! I'm so sorry! I've been drowning in a sea of Italian revision so blogging has had to be pushed back.
But here's a little something for you...
A few weeks ago, I visited Waddesdon Manor. A beautiful house in Bucks, home to the only collection of French Revolutionary Prints in England (I think...)
So that's why I went, and we even got to handle them ourselves! (That's a big deal guys, they're seriously old and incredibly delicate!)

Here are some of the photos I took whilst there...

The dining room really took my breath away...

Notice that there are tapestries on the wall - that's quite unusual for a dining room

The Red Drawing Room was equally lovely, and the carpet was originally designed for the Louvre!

Mind blown by every single room.
Fun fact: the blue ship vase on the cabinet on the right was the first piece bought by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild. Apparently, he had to pay for it in installments - he had considerably less money before his father died!
Here's a closer look at it...

His study...

I really want one of these!

This is a painting of all the Rothschild properties. Number 29 is Waddesdon Manor (not that you can see).
Oh, and that's the Assistant Curator!

And finally, loads of weapons!

I chose not to take any photos of the French Revolutionary Prints as I felt it would be a bit criminal. They're not on display, but I'm pretty sure you can make an appointment in order to view them. They really are a must see, truly incredible and thoroughly entertaining!

  1. WOW what an amazing place! Can you imagine what it would have been like to live there back in the day? And all the crazy parties they would have had? Awesome.

    1. Yeah, it was exactly that - a party house! Very common in Britain to have places in the countryside, I wouldn't mind one to be honest! xx
