London, April 2013

Bit of a delay, but last week I was in London with my family (bar my brother who is currently holidaying in Florida) in our city home. Unfortunately, I didn't take my camera (stupid me) so all the photos are from my instagram
We got up to a lot of stuff, really packed it in!
We drove up early on Tuesday morning, got to the house, unpacked, and went straight out for lunch.

Louis and Cecilia
We chose to go to 'Giraffe' because it's super good when it comes to children, and Louis isn't the most ideal child when it comes to trying new food.
Despite it being a chain restaurant, I did have a really yummy salad!

And Louis seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself too!

After lunch, we headed to the British Museum as we had tickets to the Pompeii and Herculaneum exhibition there. Louis is obsessed with volcanoes at the moment, so as you can imagine, he was hooked from the word go.
Photography wasn't allowed in the exhibition, so I just got some general photos of Louis in the museum.

Waiting for Grandad to show up (he was meeting us there)
Indiana Louis wearing Grandad's hat
After that, Louis was shattered so we all went home. My sister offered to babysit so my parents took me out for dinner. The restaurant we visited deserves its own post though, so I'll do a separate one with plenty of pictures!

Our next adventure involved a boat trip to Greenwich. I thought Louis would be interested in seeing London from the boat, but he was more interested in how big the waves were in the Thames.
Here's Louis (looking rather scruffy, sorry) waiting to board the boat...

And here's the only photo I took whilst on board...

We ate lunch at Zizzis because once again, they're quite good with kids.
Again, I had a great salad!

And here's a photo of my son looking pretty civilised for once!

After lunch, I took Louis to the Maritime Museum whilst the rest of the family explored the market.
The day ended with snuggles on the sofa in front of Avengers!

Adventure number 3 involved me dragging Louis to the National Gallery in an effort to familiarise him with what I study. I didn't think he'd like it at all but gave it a try anyway and was pleasantly surprised! He was good as gold and really seemed to want to learn. I had bought him 'The Story of Art Sticker Book' as one of his Christmas presents last year so we took it with us - it really helped him engage with the pieces. I could not have been happier!
He told me at the end that his favourite piece was 'The Ambassadors' by Hans Holbein.

Here's a photo of him sticking the 'Arnolfini Portrait' in his book...

Mum came with us to the gallery but went off to look at things herself. When we finally found her, she had a surprise for me!

THANKS MUM!
When we'd exhausted the gallery, we moved on to St. Martin in the Fields to do some brass rubbing. Louis was actually really good at it. I thought he'd struggle, but he was pretty much a pro!

The trip ended the following day with another early start (Dad had meetings to get to so we had to suffer!)

BYE LONDON!

    1. He is sooo well behaved, really incredible for a 5 year old! He loved the Gallery and really made an effort to learn about the images in front of him. Afterwards he was telling everyone that his favourite painting was 'Umbrellas' by Renoir! xx
