Since no one wants to ever do anything after a long Monday, she celebrated at the weekend.
Loads of her friends came up to uni from her hometown, and a group of us went out to dinner at Wilde's Wine Bar in Leamington Spa.
It's a really lovely place with lots of brickwork and wood, and little fairy lights dotted around.
We began the meal with a variety of platters consisting of cold meats, fried chorizo, pates, dips, homemade scotch eggs, and a really great little crayfish dish that I couldn't get enough of...
Everything was lovely, and the sharing platters allowed everyone to get to know one another a little better. Fran had put together a seating plan that essentially sat her uni friends between home friends, which was a nice little touch. The restaurant was alive with the chatter of 20-somethings!
The eagerly anticipated main courses arrived and they all looked great. The one you can kind of see above is the Cider braised pork belly with apple mash and mustard cabbage.
I managed to sneak a photo of Millie's Salmon en croute with creamed spinach, dill and mustard sauce, and crushed new potatoes from across the table...
There were also a lot of cheese and bacon steak burgers flying out, but I couldn't get any photos because the light was a bit iffy.
Fran had recommended one main in particular - the proscuitto-wrapped supreme of chicken, with garlic, herb and spinach stuffing, Lyonnaise potatoes, and red wine jus.
Needless to say, I opted for that one!
The red wine jus isn't pictured - it came out in jugs and I was too impatient to wait for it before I took a picture.
It was absolutely delicious. Good shout, Franny!
Dessert hit the table after a tad more wine...
Served again on sharing platters, attempts at transferring the rapidly melting ice cream onto individual plates proved quite entertaining.
Nevertheless, this was some of the best food I've eaten during my three years at uni. I didn't think Leamington offered this kind of stuff!
All in all, a great night with good food, good wine, and good company.
Happy 21st, Fran!
