Quarr Abbey is a monastery on the Isle of Wight, and is home to a small group of Benedictine monks. It's a really lovely place to visit if you want somewhere to unwind as it's so quiet and beautiful. You can take a look at the monastery itself, wander down to the ruins, have a look at the art gallery, visit the Abbey shop and café which stock fresh produce grown at the Abbey, as well as other island goodies from places such as the Garlic Farm, AND you can feed the PIGS! This is obviously the best part. We took Louis there for the day and had a really great time pottering around in the sunshine.
Louis decided he was going to tie a piece of rope around his waist so he looked like a monk, apparently.
The shop is a real treasure trove of goodies. The café is in the same building and they sell some seriously scrummy cakes.
There is also a full main menu available. When we visited, they were serving up fish platters, ploughmans lunches, beef curries, seafood risottos, crab pastas, and special 'Quarr Abbey Salads'.
I got the impression that these change regularly but that's something worth checking out.
The art exhibition is in the gatehouse part. Unfortunately, they were hanging the work for the opening the next day so I wasn't allowed in to take photos.
Louis tried his best to sneak through but didn't quite manage.
To be honest, I'd visit just to feed the pigs. They're so cute and we spent hours watching them wrestle each other for food.
I thought they were adorable and really wanted to steal one...
... but then I'd be a hamburglar.
