I've been pretty ill this week. Normally I'd call it Freshers flu, but I'm not a fresher, nor have I been around any. It's just a bad cold that kept me shut up in the flat for a few days.
Anyway, after a while I started to get a little bit stir-crazy so I grabbed my coat, scarf, and extra large box of tissues and headed out for a walk to the Frari.
Now, I've already been to the Frari (don't worry, there will be a post on it eventually), so instead I headed to the Scuola Grande di San Rocco just behind it. Unfortunately, much like the rest of Venetian tourist attractions, photography is strictly prohibited and there were guards everywhere, so no opportunity for even the sneakiest of snaps.
It is super impressive though - Tintorettos everywhere - so worth a visit (although the 10 euro entry fee was not so great)
After spending a while in the Scuola, I popped next door to the church of Saint Roch (Chiesa di San Rocco).
Like the Scuola, you're not allowed to take pictures in here either. This time, however, the guard got called to do something somewhere else, so everyone whipped out their cameras and took some snaps. Here's what I got...
This is literally only 2 minutes from my flat, guys!
Also, I asked my lecturer why photography was forbidden, since I thought it might have been to preserve the artworks, or because it's disrespectful or something...
NOPE! They just want to be able to sell pictures, and they don't want people to have them for free.
That's even after you've paid an extortionate entry fee in most places!
Next time I intend on getting my money's worth.
